The next meeting of the NCBA's Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) will be held on Friday, March 04, 2005 from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Bar Center in Cary, NC.

The next meeting of the NCBA's Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) will be held as follows:
a. Day: Friday, March 04, 2005 b. Time: 10:30 am to 1:00 pm c. Location: NC Bar Center, Cary, NC; Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr. Conference Room "C" d. Hot lunch will be served starting at noon e. Directions are available on line at: http://www.ncbar.org/about/directions.asp
TAC members can also participate via phone conference from any convenient location using the NCBA's "Raindance Reservationless Conferencing Account". The phone conference information will be emailed to TAC members a few days before the meeting.

Updates on previous agenda items: a. Public Access to AOC Criminal Database - Al Friedrich. Report results of 2/04/05 meeting conducted by Janet Pueschel (Clerk of Superior Court, Wake County) with TAC, AOC & WCBA tech members. b. Electronic Filing (eFiling) - Tom Purdy. Report results of 1/28/05 joint AOC / NCBA Working Group meeting.

“IT needs of small firms” Project Subcommittee Report - Greg DeWitt (Chair) a. Approved charter: “Help the “Small Firm Outreach” ad hoc committee support the President’s goal to provide “regional bar association programs”. Support the committee through participation, research, etc. and follow up on the proposed action items to: (1) market NCBA’s technology services, (2) market NCBA’s Web-based services, (3) create online technology references, (4) create online “consumer reports” forum, & (5) conduct regional technology workshops. b. Discussed assigned action items and identified follow up.

Web Projects Subcommittee Report - Ted Tewkesbury (Chair) a. Approved charter: “Help the NCBA manage the development of new Web-based services and features by recommending technology-related information and services, reviewing and prioritizing Web project requests, and/or providing feedback on new applications. b. 1st Action Item - Report results of LRS request to create custom domain name or separate web address and proposed NCBA policy. c. NCBA Web Project Status Update i. Completed since last meeting - 4 1. LRS “NC Find-a-Lawyer” (3 months) - legal referral service for approved panel members (013105) 2. NC Lawyer Legislators (2 weeks) - List of NC legislators; created using CMS so staff members can maintain (021805) 3. NC Lawyer Online (2 weeks) - current & archived copies (022105; Jan-Feb 2005 edition posted) 4. Annual Meeting Online Application (2 weeks) - secure sign up & payment of 2005 Annual Meeting events (022205) ii. High Priority - In Progress - 5 (estimate 3/31/05 completion) 1. Searchable Legislative Bill Tracking Chart 2. NCBar Forums 3. Diversity Community / Web Site 4. Zoning, Planning and Land Use "Section" Web Site 5. AMS Upgrade & Web Integration (ongoing project) iii. Medium Priority - Not Started - 3 (estimate 5/31/05 completion) 1. LISTSERV Subscription Manager 2. Fax Broadcast Replacement 3. New “myNCBar” member-specific features 4. Quarterly Site Updates

Subcommittee Participation Status - Al Friedrich. Still need volunteers to chair the following subcommittees, so they can get started: a. Electronic Filing. Help the AOC/NCBA working group committee support the President’s goal to “Develop and implement an electronic filing and data retrieval system for the North Carolina Courts.” Support the committee through participation, research, etc., as required. b. Build a Technology Plan. Help the NCBA create a technology strategy document to identify what the NCBA needs and how required hardware, software, and/or services can be obtained using available resources. Review and provide inputs to the technology plan, which will be included in the NCBA’s 2005 Long Range Plan that identifies technology needs for the next 3-5 years.
