The next meeting of the NCBA's Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) will be held on Friday, June 10, 2005 from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Bar Center in Cary, NC.



The next meeting of the NCBA's Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) will be held as follows:

    a. Day: Friday, June 10, 2005
    b. Time: 10:30 am to 1:00 pm
    c. Location: NC Bar Center, Cary, NC; Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr. Conference Room "C"
    d. Hot lunch will be served starting at noon

TAC members can also participate via phone conference from any convenient location using the NCBA's "Raindance Reservationless Conferencing Account". The phone conference information will be emailed to TAC members a few days before the meeting.

        i. Need feedback from TAC members on functionality including member sign up/access control, user operations, FAQs, etc. for:
           1. NCBA Forums: http://www.ncbar.org/forums/
           2. myForums: http://www.ncbar.org/myNCBar/myForums/index.aspx
       ii. Planned implementation is week of 6/13.
       iii. Send feedback to support@ncbar.org.

    a. Web Projects Subcommittee Report
 - John Cox
       i. Participants (4) - Ted Tewkesbury (Chair), Sam Byassee, John Cox & Tom Purdy
       ii. NCBA Web Project Status Update - see report

    b. Electronic Filing (eFiling) Subcommittee Report - Jim Clark (Chair).
       i. Participants (7) - Judge Neely, Al Friedrich, Rolly Chambers, D. Grace Carter, Ruben Fernandez, Jim Clark, and Tom Purdy
       ii. Electronic Court Filing Bill H-633
           1. Subcommittee voted in favor of proposed legislation and recommended that the NCBA’s Governmental Affairs department track it.
           2. BOG discussed Bill H-633 during April meeting and by a vote of 9 to 6 agreed to support the bill as well as assist with amending the bill's verbiage.  The NCBA members that served on the joint AOC/NCBA Working Group met with AOC staff members (e.g., Pamela Best & Cliff Layman) during 4/15 TAC meeting and provided inputs to revise the proposed bill’s verbiage.

    c. Build a Technology Plan Subcommittee Report - Larry Gianneschi (Chair)
        i. Participants (3) - Greg DeWitt, Larry Gianneschi and Tom Purdy
        ii. Reviewing NCBA’s 2005-6 Technology Budget and Information Technology Systems Replacement Plan for 2005-9
        iii. Future Plans
    d. “IT needs of small firms” Project Subcommittee Report - Greg DeWitt (Chair)
        i. Participants (5) à Greg DeWitt, Phil Dixon, Virginia Burrows, Jim Clark, & Tom Purdy
        ii. Funds for 2005-06 Practice Management Update programs (i.e., technology workshops) were requested by Membership Services Department.  Six (6) programs will be conducted in conjunction with Lawyers Mutual CLE programs in the Triad, Greenville, Fayetteville, Asheville, Charlotte and Wilmington.
        iii. Approved Vendor List: Action item for possible Fall 2005 implementation.  Need to define:
            1. What an approved vendor is (e.g., policies and requirements they must meet).
            2. How vendors become approved (e.g., fill out an approved vendor request, make presentation to TAC & approved by TAC and/or BOG).
       iv. Future Plans
5. President’s Goals for 2005-2006 - Al Friedrich
    a. Discuss TAC’s role in goals that have possible technology-related action items.
    b. Service to the Profession
        i. Expand small firm outreach programs to extend bar services across the state (Membership & Technology Advisory Committees).
        ii. Plan strategically for the NCBA (Strategic Planning Committee)
    c. Administration of Justice
        i. Establish electronic filing and data retrieval system for NC courts (Ad Hoc E-Filing Committee and Technology Advisory Committee)
